I'm from the Eastern States and curious. Through history, how did Western Australia managed to become the only state on the western part of Australia?

  1. Well basically its because us Sandgropers wanted to call all of the country to the left of a line dropped down from roughly from Cairns to the right of Melbourne "Western Australia".

However, the rest of you mob wouldn't agree to that, so we dropped down a bit.

  2. There were plans to split the state into three back a long long time ago, but they came to nothing. The State was too sparsely populated at the time. The Pilbara Region is generating about 70% of Australia's GDP so maybe there will come another push.

There is a recommendation from the ex governor to set up a regional government in the Kimberley due to aboriginal issues but that has been rejected. However, with global warming we might up have to move to the Kimberley one day as the southern areas of Australia dry up. Maybe the state capital will move from Perth to the North in the next century.

  3. Well australia used to be split into western australia on the west and nsw on the right but nsw split up into seperate states and territories but W.A stayed on its own.

  4. Because they are greedy over there in the West...lmao

Us poor Vic's have to put up with being one of the smallest states but with twice the number of people living in it...

  5. Nothing there. In terms of green farmland anyway. Australia was built on agriculture other than the gold rush. Towns lived off  farms. States were carved up into manageable chunks of country. Not that much to manage over there at the time. Now they've got a massive mining boom. Most of the tradeies are migrating west. WA is the place to be

  6. because western australia is a desert
