Question:

Why is Yahoo! Launchcast Radio *still* not compatible with Macs? I've been waiting since 2002.

Please... I'm sure I filled out the feedback form then. They are well aware they don't have this product available for Macs... Looks like Yahoo! is already in cahoots with Microsoft!

  1. Kate, you won't like this answer, but it's the truth. Yahoo looked at the size of the Mac market vs. the size of the PC market and made a decision to put Mac development at a lower priority. Same with Launchcast support for Firefox. That said, I know they have intended to enhance their product to support at least Firefox, if not the Mac specifically, for the past 2 1/2 years minimum. Other critical issues keep coming up that knock this enhancement down in the priority list: royalty rates for internet radio, management changes, disappointing corporate financial results, restructuring, the Microsoft bid, the sale of YMU to RealNetworks. The new team at Yahoo Music is still saying they intend to roll out this support "this year", but they aren't masters of their own destiny. They have to answer to their corporate master, which is typical for any large organization.

I honestly don't believe they are in "cahoots" with Microsoft on this. I think design decisions Yahoo Music made years ago has made it difficult (read, expensive from a development standpoint) for them to move away from the Internet Explorer-Windows Media Player tie-in.

    Bye
