I know frontside 180's are the one's you keep facing straight the whole time and backside 180's when you have to face backwards at a point. But why is a frontside boardslide facing backwards? and a backside boardslide is when you face forward the whole time??

  1. This is kinda a long one so get ready. A frontside 180 is called frontside because you are spinning off your heels, keeping the bottom of the mountain in front of you. A backside is just the opposite, you spin off your toes and are facing up the mountain (also called a blind landing if you don't spot this one).

Jibbing is a little different but the idea remains the same. Backside boardslide is when your front is facing down the mountain kind of opposite but hey I didn't name it that. The reason for the name is that the rail is now behind you, hence the backside. The frontside boardslide is when your back is facing down the mountain but the rail is in front of you, hence the frontside.

There is no true reason to why it was called this, but it stuck. You'd have to go back and find out who invented the trick to get his exact response but I'm guessing the above is what they'd say.

  2. kinda like how on a boardslide, your board is split over the rail/box 50/50

    weird

  3. a backside boardslide means only the backside edge of your board is touching the snow, and frontside means only the frontside is. if you're regular. i think.
