Why is a glacier formed in salt water but is fresh water?

in geography class we were discussing glaciers. and extra credit is to find out why glaciers are in oceans(salt water) but are made up of fresh water?? please answer quickly!

  1. The salt all goes into little pockets of salt water inside of the glacier. At least that's what I learned in Earth Science. Still might not explain WHY though, but I hoped it helped. That also might just apply to glaciers in the oceans like icebergs (which is what I think you were asking about).


  2. Because they formed from precipitation, compacted layers of snow, which is always from fresh water.
