Why is a good raw meat for puppy?

My son has a staffy boxer cross that is 3 1/2 months old. He is a big boy, weighing 9 kilos and is about up to my knee already.

I am feeding him dry puppy biscuits, giving him a dental stix bar everynight, he has been warmed and been frontlines flea treated.

He goes on a long walk every second day - daily if the weather is nice.

Q: The pet store lady told us never to feed a dog - beef? We are trialing a sample of "vets complete all natural food, that we have to add to raw meat? So what raw meats should you NOT feed a puppy?

I live in Australia, so kangaroo is an option - you really can buy it !

thanks

  1. Any type of raw meat is acceptable unless there is an issue with beef in your area (Ex. Madcow LOL!)

I agree that joining the yahoo group for raw feeders would be a benefit as they can provide you with plenty of valuable infomation as well as possible places to pick up you meats at cheap prices.

To the people that believe feeding RAW is not acceptable...Please do your research...RAW is one of the best feeding practices out there and several people have reported vast improvements in the overall health of their pets after feeding raw. Skin conditions clearing up, less allergies, etc. Cooking anything results in the loss of the nutrients so you may as well feed kibble and also soften bones making them a hazard for splintering.

  2. I give my American bulldog puppy raw beef and raw chicken allll the time! As a meal even.  We also feed an Ultra Holistic dog food though as well.  No Corn, no wheat, no soy.

Chicken is EXCELLENT for a dog.  Raw only of course, unless the cooked chicken is de-boned.

And for Someone who said raw meat is BAD for dogs, YOU are crazy...what do you thing WILD dogs eat??? They let meat sit around and rot for a few days before going BACK to eat on it again... DUH! You dont see a wolf sitting around a camp fire grilling their deer before they eat it do you?? NO!

  3. do not feed your puppy raw meat.  Cook it.  Raw meat can have worms, etc in it.  Would you feed the rest of your family raw meat?  You can feed your puppy any kind of meat that you, yourself, will eat.  Just make sure that you do not feed your dog meat bones w/o checking w a vet.  Chicken bones, especially, are bad for dogs.

  4. none, r u crazy

  5. You can really feed any meat, unless your dog has issues with it.

My own dogs get chicken, beef, pork, venison, fish, and lamb. If I could get kangaroo they'd get that too. But you can't buy that in the U.S. :(

  6. There is a great group here on yahoo.com called RAWFEEDING.  They have lots of information about feeding your dog a raw diet.  Most of them start with chicken.  Remember that you need to feed meat, RAW bones, and weekly organ meat to get a balanced diet.  Make sure the bones are RAW - never give a dog cooked bones.  Cooking changes the chemical composition and the bones can splinter and damage your dog's system.

Starting now will help his teeth and you won't need the dental bars.

You might also check out the group, The Truth about Vaccines.  Good luck.

  7. I for sure believe in the RAW diet. We have a 4 month old chocolate lab and he has been on the diet since he was 8 weeks old. He seems to love it. He is fed rabbit, bison, beef, chicken and pork, as well as parsley, carrots, garlic and some other veggies. This food is all ground up real nice and put into 1/4 lb. squares, Makes it real easy to feed, sucks for travelling tho ha ha.  We also feed him buffalo knuckles and venison necks once a week or so.

Sometimes I question if this is a good diet for him, but then I look into the kibble business and I just don't trust it. So far so good with the raw. I'm gonna stick with it unless he shows me signs that its not working for him!

    Good luck to you!

PS. dont always listen to the vets, they sometimes dont know what the **** they are talking about. I had a lady try and tell me that this diet is bad for him and that we should buy the c**p off the shelf of her office. I read the ingredients and couldnt pronounce half of them....are you kiddin me? You want me to feed my dog what????!!!!!
