It's valuable because like the first answerer said, he didn't approve of the cigar companies that made them, so not many were made, and of the ones that were made, many were thrown away because who would think that cigar cards would be worth thousands of dollars someday?

I think there are about 40 in the whole world today.

Wagner was one of the best shortstops of all time and his T206 is one of the rarest cards in one of the most popular baseball sets of all time.

The myth that Honus didn't smoke and objected to the tobacco baseball card that had limited distributed is simply false. The lack of royalties was probably what caused a shortage of the T-206 card. Honus did enjoy a smoke (and a drink, and a friendly wager too) in moderation.  He had other cards that appeared with tobacco products.

Because back then baseball cards were sold inside cigarettes and cigar packs and Honus Wagner did not approve them to put his cards in there.  Because of that there weren't many Honus Wagner cards put into circulation and were very hard to get your hands on.  It's a very rare card which is why it makes this card so valuable.
