Why is a "medium" soda at some fast food places 32 ounces?

It's because they can charge a bit more by upping all the ounces in the small, medium and large sizes. They make more money and a lot of people, who just habitually order a medium, are surprised at both the size and the price. It always pays to look at the sign or ask, exactly how large is a medium drink before ordering.
