Why is a rainbow 'n' shaped and not 'u' shaped?

  1. yes, and the refracted light through the spherical rain droplets actually forms a circular rainbow, but usually we can only see the upper part of it.

  3. The rainbow looks convex shaped as the light comes to us as object,i.e. it is converging to our eyes rather moving away or spreading out.The scattering leads to colour separation and arranging them in order of wavwlengths.

  5. If you look standing up it's 'n' shape but if you stoop and look between your knees it's 'u' shape. It all depends on how you look at things :)

  6. becuase the sun is higher than the clouds, by several million miles, and the rainbow appears becuase of the angle of the light boucing off water molecules such as raindrops
