Question:

Why is a shorter rope better than a long rope when wake boarding?

I just started wake boarding - today, actually! It's so fun! - and I was told that a shorter rope (30 - 50 ft long) is better than the traditional skiing rope. What is the reason for this?

Thanks!

  1. The question has already been answered and listen to the second person about riding switch this will definitely be a big help in the future. The main thing about the rope though is to make sure it's a non-stretch rope. I just wanted to add that in case you didn't know

  2. For a beginner, a shorter rope usually works better (although 30 ft seems a bit short to me, even for a beginner). For someone just starting out, the boat is usually at a slower speed, so the wake widens much closer to the boat than at faster speeds. The shorter rope will allow for a beginner to learn wake to wake jumps faster, since the wake will be closer (shorter jump) than when using a long rope. As you progress you'll want the rope to be longer. Advances riders use ropes upwards of 80 ft.

  3. heath is right, a shorter rope is perfect for begginners (50 ft. is perfect actually) because the boat should only be traveling around 15 mph until you progress.. you shouldnt be worrying too much about going wake to wake right now though, instead focus on riding switch and perfecting your edge and do some inside the wake-out jumps to get the feel of landing.. dont go too big before youre ready in other wards, you cant run til you know how to walk

    good luck
