  1. Probably because it was named by the English. When it comes to scoring this way all they do is try without succeeding, relying on kicks instead.


  2. because that's the way it is. Like how 'the' came to existance because there's no logical reason for it

  6. It had something to do with trying to score a goal by forcing the ball over the line.  Mind you, the Americans in gridiron call it a touchdown, but they seem to do a little dance instead of touching down
