Why is a very hot spell of weather, called a heat wave, in the UK.?

Because it is generally cooler where you are.As the Earth warms up due to natural causes and some from man the weather changes(as everthing in the universe is in a constant state of change) and more energy is imparted into the weather it can become more extreme.

it's not called a heatwave because of that, when theres a heatwave if you look on the ground or a surface you can see the waves of heat bouncing off.

it's called a heatwave in any country it's just we don't have that many.

basically because it never gets very hot in the uk and when it does almost everyone moans about it. Thus the weather man or the newspapers warn the public by letting them know there's going to be a heatwave................................... between all the RAIN!!!!!

It's called a heat wave in the United States too.  It just refers to a short stretch of extremely hot weather.
