Question:

Why is abortion "ok" in some cases, for instance rape?

A lot of people say that abortion should only be legal in case of rape. From a purely humanistic point of view, I can understand, but from a moral and religious viewpoint it is very hard to understand.

If you believe abortion is murder, how is it ok to exercise capital punishment for the crime of rape, against the secondary victim? It is a great principle of justice that we do not hold people accountable for the crimes of others, let alone crimes comitted when you were not yet even born?

  1. why should a woman who has already been victimized be forced to carry the child for 9 months as a reminder of what happened

  2. Yes, it is Gods will that someone got raped and they must have the rapist baby. Or it was the will of the devil that someone got raped and pregnant and now must have the baby.

  3. It's legal, that's why people justify it. Me personally, I would never let my wife get one, nor a child. If it were an instance of rape, and my wife couldn't handle seeing the child everyday for the rest of his life, then I would be ok with her giving the child up for adoption, but only in the extreme case of rape. It's not the child's fault, so I would not want her to give the child up for adoption, but I could understand why.

  4. Some people think abortion is ok in all cases, since it affects a woman's body.  Rape and the ensuing pregnancy certainly affects a woman's body.

  5. I'm not quite sure if I understand your question fully, but I will try. Why is abortion okay in the case of rape victims, when the baby is being the one 'punished'? Is that it? If so...

Abortion is not punishment. The fetus cannot feel pain, and thus will not feel the abortion (given abortion is performed within 30 weeks of conception; though others argue that sense the fetus does not have sensory, emotional and cognitive faculties until a certain point, it cannot 'feel pain').

Forcing a rape victim to endure an unwanted pregnancy can be viewed as punishment for HER. She is forced to carry a child for nine months from an event in which she was rendered helpless and powerless. Imagine how the woman feels. Again, she is powerless, only this time, it lasts for nine months.

If this pregnancy is seen as a punishment, it will most likely devalue the child's worth in the woman's eyes. She may see the baby as the cause of her suffering and is being forced to raise and pay for something she never wanted. Rape victims can easily fall into depression and said depression could render the victim an unfit mother, leaving the child to be deprived mentally, socially, and emotionally, resulting in a stunted human being that will go into society without the tools to be productive.

I believe that abortion is okay in the case of rape, due to the negative potential that the fetus may carry and because of the mental health of the mother, which is already shaken due to such a traumatic event.

  6. capital crimes issues are one thing, abortions are another issue..rape is another issue...it is a personal choice is a woman decides to get an abortion due to rape/sexual assault..sentences for rapist, murders..should be tougher and sentencing longer
