  1. All the water makes it cooler

  2. In summer the body of water is usually cooler than the land.  The sun heats the land directly on its surface.

The sun's rays go into water and have to heat a much larger mass to increase its heat content.  Also, water is evaporating- this further cools a body of water.  Because of these factors and more the water and consequently the air above the water are generally cooler.

This situation can reverse in winter where the water many times is warmer than the land.

  3. Because water has a higher specific heat capacity.

But you see that only in the spring and summer, usually during the day. In winter, it is the other way around for the same reason.

  4. During summer the hot air inland rises which causes an on shore flow. Since the water temperature is lower than the surface temperature, the air coming off of the ocean is cooler.
