  1. It shortens the time it takes to get from A to B. It also transports merchandise quickly = For example most of the Roses sold in the US come from Colombia. That couldnt happen without air transport.

  2. Not many rail lines in the countries with all the high mountains!

  3. they have HUGE andes mountains

    enormous jungles

    massive swamplands

south america is twice the size of the US with about the same number of people

    is underpopulated

  4. Air transportation is important all over the world, not just South America. Trade? Tourism? I can give you tons of reasons which will apply to any region of the world.

  5. Large distances.

  6. Mainly because South American countries are, on average, quite large (Venezuela = France x 2) and their land transport routes are not as developed as other countries. That's why air transport is vital both for business and for passenger traffic.

  7. Because, the Mountains are so high. it would take forever, without air transport.

  8. Because, unlike the US, most of the countries in South America don't have freeways or highways, and if they do they are probably not in good shape (lots of potholes, uneven streets, bumps, traffic).

So flying makes more sense if you're trying to get somewhere fast.
