  1. Because most come to power with backing by the military. Many countries have sham elections as we see recently in Zimbabwe

  2. not all african leaders are dictators  for example kenya, ganah

  3. its just because Africa has never had a long lasting sustainable economy or governemnt.  i blame it on the invasion of other countries into africa many centuries ago. it completely screwed up everything the tribes people had going for them. now greedy leaders like mugabe want to take the money away from their people and keep it themselves. Its all out of greed.

  4. Botswana, Angola, Namibia, Ghana, South Africa, Liberia, Moc,ambique  are all democracies and have decent leaders, as politicians go.

As for the rest, the colonial past is still not overcome. Voting along tribal divisions, and not accepting the result of elections if the own tribe has lost, is part of that heritage, where states where drawn up by the whim of the former overlords, with total disregard for the people who lived there.

Sending the sons of the elite to Europe to be educated, teaching them to despise the traditions of their people in the process, has resulted in a ruling class which is acting as if the country and all its riches belong to them. Most of them keep their armies on their side, and/or have militias to suppress those that would stand against them.
