They certainly aren't illegal where I live.

It's always helpful to include where you are talking about in your legal questions. Laws vary greatly from state to state and country to country.

Usually the reason something harmless is illegal is that your government is paranoid and repressive. If it's an authoritarian regime, oppose it. If it's a democratically elected regime, vote it out.

It depends on which state you live in (if you live in the US), but I don't think airsoft guns are illegal to buy anywhere. It's just that in some places it is illegal to use them in public, or when people are present.
