My Father used the term "can of corn" when there was an easy fly to the outfield when I used to go to baseball games with him as a kid. I heard a sports broadcaster use the term today and I wanted to know how that phrase came about.

Thanks in advance :)

  1. because it was hit very softy..like a can of corn is mushy and soft.

  2. It means a very easy pop up catch. It started when grocers used to use a broom to knock down cans of corn for customers since the can of corn was on the highest shelf because it lasted the longest. They would then catch it in their apron.

  3. just like when someone says something is easy they say it is "a piece of cake"
