Why is an iPhone cheaper than an iPod Touch?

theyre gonna release the new iPhone this month, the cheapest one being $199 and having 8GB; but the 8GB iPod touch is $299. Shouldn't the iPhone, being the same as iPod touch except having a phone too- which is better- be more expensive? Why is an iPod touch more expensive than an iPhone?

AHA - you haven't had an economics class yet.

the ipod touch is in high demand, Apple can charge more and get it because lots of people want it.

Now, the iphone, Apple is still introducing them into the market ( even though there have been iphones for 2 or 3 years. Apple want to get a larger share of the cell phone market.   so they muct charge a price that is about the same as other cell phones - or people will buy other much much cheaper phones.

It's cheaper at the start, but not in the long run.

and iphone will actually cost $199 + a 2 year contract of service. The minimum for that service will be $70 per month + all the taxes. So the actual cost of an iphone is closer to $2000.

You can get an iphone without a contact, but I think it is like $599, so an iphone does cost more to own than a touch.

2 words really. HIDDEN FEES. It maybe has many many hidden fees which makes it cost more.

having the iphone being less expensive gives the buyer incentive. the phone is sold by at&t and this gives people a reason to join their comany. in the long run its MUCH more expensive, cell phone bills ranging from 70-200 dollars a month. but the low price is what incializes the cell phone company switch. an itouch doesn't require it becasue it isn't a cell phone.
