Lime, Aricot,Lemon are not colours does nobody get it? They are all only references of colours were Orange is an actual colour so everyone is wrong!!! and the colour came before fruit was named.

  1. i think its the other way round, the colour orange is named after the orange, like lime green is named after the lime, if there was no lime - it would just be green, if there was no orange..it would be...some odd shade of yellow and red.

  2. Well there is Lime green, lemon yellow, cherry red,so I think the colour is taken from the fruit, not vice versa.

  3. i have come to the conclusion that 1 day an explorer bought back an orange to his king and asked what to call it. since the king was so busy he saw that it was orange and he didn't want to be botherd anymore so he just said orange and walked away.

  4. 1)Orange is both a noun and an adjective in the English language.

    In both cases, it refers primarily to the orange fruit and the colour orange, but has many other derivative meanings.

    Before the English-speaking world was exposed to the fruit, the colour was referred to as geoluhread in Old English, which translates roughly into Modern English as yellow-red.

    2)Orange derives from Sanskrit nāraigai "orange tree", with borrowings through Persian nārang, Arabic nāranj, Spanish naranja, Late Latin arangia, Italian arancia or arancio, and Old French orenge, in chronological order. The first appearance in English dates from the 14th century. The name of the colour is largely derived from the fruit, first appearing in this sense in the 16th century.

    3 ) Etymology of orange word ==

    The colour is named after the orange fruit, introduced to Europe via the Indo-European word nāranja.

    Before this was introduced to the English-speaking world, the colour was referred to (in Old English) as geoluhread, which translates into Modern English as yellow-red.

    The first recorded use of orange as a colour name in English was in 1512,in the court of King Henry VIII.
