Why is an outlet called and "outlet", when the purpose is to plug things in to them?

  1. It is where current flows out to your appliances. It's just that simple.

  4. It's an "outlet" for the electricity, if it where an "inlet" then the electricity would go in, and our whole world would shutdown.

    We don't need to heat hot water.

    The proper name for them is "recepticle" for receiving a wired device ie. a lamp.
