Why is an over reliance on pain killing drugs sometimes seen as undermining the approach?

  1. Because they deal with pain in the real world not the mystic one.  Try being in chronic pain day after day,, 24/7,,, you'll run for the opiates.  

    I'm disabled due to nerve damage, a spine injury and chronic pain.  Without pain medication I wouldn't be typing this.  They allow me to at least have a somewhat normal life.

    Over the past 10 years I have tried everything at least once for chronic pain.  For 7 years I've been in a pain management program to help controll the pain,,  opiates are just one part of it.  Holistic may work for some people but when you have an actual injury like your spine it's best to leave to the people that understand science and medicine,, not get their credentials over the internet.
