Why is an over reliance on pain killing drugs sometimes seen as undermining the approach to pain.?

Holistic medical "practitioners" cannot prescribe drugs. So of course they're going to say that.

Contrary to what they say, the only proven treatment for severe pain is narcotics. Unfortunately there are many problems with taking narcotics, not the least of which is addiction.

Because it is easier to prescribe a pain killer, albeit a aspirin, then to find out the reason for the pain, be it physical, emotional or psychological? Morphine will not do anything for emotional pain, or psychological pain. Best of Luck
