Farting is a natural, and sometimes even involuntary act whereas smoking is a conscious choice so why aren't peolpe who smoke expected to say "excuse me"?

  1. This question is absurd. People have been smoking for generations, so deal with it.

  2. because it's something that comes expectantly. it's like when you accidentally walk into someone you say "oh excuse me", or when you burp, usually they are things that disturb other people & cannot be aviodid. if you know someone smokes and you come into their area to smoke why should they be sorry? I dont know if that makes any sence, but it made sence in my head lol

  3. They usually don't even realize that they smell like an ashtray. I know I didn't when I was smoking. They are not doing anything to say excuse me for either. It it not impolite to smoke in a smoking area.

  4. When you f**t and say excuse me, its some stupid politically correct thing to show others you are sorry that you passed gas in their presence and you want to be excused and forgiven.

I say excuse me if I am near a girl or in a place where good manners are important.  If I am at Wal-Mart, I just let it go and look at them like someone farting in public is nothing new.

In regards to the smoking, I don;t know what to say.  A lot of people that smoke are either self-conscous about smoking because they want to quit so they don't say it.  Or they are selfish and just feel that if you choose to share the same air, you should deal with it.

In that case get a fire extinguisher, hose them down, put it back, leave the restaurant like its no big deal, and call it a day.  You are a better person than I.
