  1. Non-discrimination is fine.

Anti-discrimination is simply the other side of the same coin.

  2. It's gone wayyyyy too far.

  3. If I were to decide I want to 'date a guy of my age', then likely my wife would get upset about this ...as I'd be discriminating against younger guys and women too.

As a hetero male, I've been discriminating all my life as to whom I date, bed, give personal information to and have home for meals.

So, the Government plans on locking me up for all of this in due course as not only do I practice discrimination, but I'll refuse to give any biometric data should they decide to use their powers to have us all ID'd. I'd be discriminating against which Law I'd choose to obey and who it was who was elected too.

    Sash.

  4. Well its actually a solution that creates another problem. The good thing is that because of anti-discrimination, the 'hate' type of racism has dramatically reduced over the years, this makes the countires (especially America) more open to diversity. However, anti-discrimination needs discrimination to actually work. A great example (from Hot Rod the movie) is shown below (not exact quotes btw).

Rod: "Who would win in a fight, a Cheese sandwich or a Taco?".

Girl: "With professional rules, I'd say the Cheese sandwich, but if it was prison rules I'd definately go for the Taco".

    Rod: "Now thats just racist".

See here, she was racist by saying that the Taco would lose in professional rules where there is no foul play (so you would have a civilised fight) but would win in prison rules where there are no rules at all (so you could be as ruthless as you want). Becuase a Taco is a Mexican dish, and a Cheese sandwich is a more Western (white) dish, that just says that she thinks that The Mexican would lose when fighting civilised, but win when anything goes.

Rod was then being racist when he said that she was racist because he was actually able to understand this.

So yeah, it takes a racist to understand one, and understanding racism is the foundation of anti-discrimination.

  5. While I think it sometimes goes too far - and can become another form of discrimination - it is a way of making us stop and check our attitudes and opinions and be honest with ourselves. We may say, for example, everyone should be treated equally, but it is one thing to believe that maxim, and quite another to implement it.

  6. It's not - it's just another form of discrimination if you think about it (and if it's taken too far)

  7. Because it creates equality of opportunity for everyone.

If no-one was discriminated against because of their race, gender disability etc then everyone would have the same access to the same services.By being anti-discriminatory creates services for people who would otherwise be disadvantaged.

Anti-discrimination also challenges oppressive practises by individuals, organisations, employers etc.
