why is it important for children to be assessed

Assessing children in pre-school will allow parents and teachers to know the progress the child is making in school. If the child is doing well in all aspects (eg. socially, physically, emotionally ...), then the school is doing a good job in preparing the child for Kindergarten and later life.

Through assessment, you may also find out if the child is doing poorly in school. In which case, you'll find out which area the child is having problems with. This would be important as well as now both parents and teachers know what areas the child needs help in.

so that they do not get mislead,misguided,and informed wrong..

  i work with allot of little ones and i teach them to always voice there opp ion and be strong in going so.you would not believe how much knowledge the Little ones know and have.(and at a such young age).this may not help your question,but i thought that i would voice what i have learned while working with toddlers.

Do you mean the kind of assessments that are given to all children (standardized tests)?

If so, it's to make sure that the teachers are teaching what they're supposed to teach and the students are learning what they're supposed to learn.  It also helps find the "holes" in each student's learning so that the proper corrections can be made.

Or, do you mean a personal assessment, as in assessing a child for Special Education?

If so, it's to make sure that each child is receiving the best service from the school that can be received and to ensure that each child is making the kind of progress they need to make.
