Why is attempting to commit suicide illegal? ?

Assuming that it is my life and I make my own destiny, why can't I decide when it should end?

I'm not suicidal right now. I just think I should be able to decide when to end. Like when I'm 80 or something like that.

I just don't get why it is illegal. Can someone explain, please?

  1. it's not illegal...assisted suicide is illegal....you can not knowingly help someone commit suicide.

  2. It isn't.  Most people think it is, but it isn't, at least in most states.  Instead, it is evidence of a mental illness creating a danger to yourself of others, and that is grounds for committment to a mental hospital, but it is not a crime.

  3. As long as your successful in your attempt it doesn't really matter...

  4. Maybe because there are costs involved and injury (trauma) to other people? Say ambulance comes, paramedics work on you, etc.

  5. because it is trying to kill someone even if it is yourself... it is still taking a life...

  6. Doesn't really matter if it's illegal or not. It's not like they'll send you to jail after you kill yourself, you're dead. It makes no sense.

  7. What laughter said. Suicide is also the absolute most self centered selfish act a human being can commit.
