Question:

Why is beach volleyball always 2 vs 2?

In indoor volleyball, we have 6 players on each side & the game is really exciting because it is unpredictable. However in beach volleyball there are only 2 players per side - one who sets & the other who spikes. It is really boring!

What do you think?

  1. In the sand, you jump lower than in indoor. So you need less defenders because you cannot smash the ball with the same power and the same precision. With more players, it would be very difficult to score a point !

And the field is smaller in beach volley.

  2. THATS COMPLETEY TRUE! U R BRILLIANT!

  3. It makes it harder!!!!!!!!

  4. The purpose of beach volleyball is to watch athletic women in bathing suits.  Its much easier to watch just two.

  5. When I lived in Arizona, I played in a great 4 v 4 beach (sand) volleyball league.  It was fun.  6 v 6 indoor is still my favorite, but 2 v 2 can be fun too.....you certainly get better quicker, because you get so many more touches

  6. it just rotates on who sets and who spikes and i played college indoor volleyball before i played beach volleyball and its more fast paced and a lot harder....maybe u should prob play it before i watch it again on tv and see if ur opinion changes any....

  7. I don't know where u play but I play on a beach volleyball team in NY and we play 5v5

  8. There are actually more formats for outdoor sand volleyball than 2v2.  I've seen everything (leagues, tournaments and just friendly games) from 2v2, 3v3, 5v5 to 6v6.  For health reasons (my ankles have enough problems without help), I avoid anything more than 6v6.

There for a while there was even a professional league that was 4v4.  Think it was sponsored by Bud Light even.

  9. I could see how it might appear that way.  You have to understand that the outdoor professional volleyball court is smaller than the indoor court.  This makes the outdoor game a lot harder because you have to jump higher to spike the ball into a smaller court.  Also, the sand is at least  20 inches deep which makes it a lot more difficult to jump.  There is a lot of strategy that goes into which player receives the serve, sets the ball, and gets to spike the ball.  Often times, the stronger hitter will not receive one serve during a whole match.  The two players on defense try to cover the whole court by giving each other signals before the start of each play.  For example, the blocker will try to block the line shot of the hitter and the other player will try to dig the angle shot.  For me, I like it a lot more than indoor volleyball.  There are more opportunities to touch the ball which means you have more control over the game.
