A few years ago I bought my 7yr old some beads to make a necklace, and ever since then she wants every kind of bead there is. She makes earrings and necklaces, and she can never get enough.

What other craft can I get her into that she might also enjoy??

  1. Berger beads at 413 e. 8th st los angeles 90014   www.bergerbeads.net

  2. I am really into anything involving crafts and creating. Personally, the reason I think it's so addicting to do any kind of craft is that it makes you feel good to create something- to take a few pieces of this and that and make something that's all you.  I started out working with beads,  as well. I also enjoy painting- especially things like those little Christmas ornaments you can buy at Michael's, things like that.   Knitting and crocheting are becoming more and more popular. I was pretty young when I learned how to crochet and it's a skill that I am very happy to have.   How about buying Fimo clay (http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displ... so that she can make her own beads? I remember making my own beads in elementary and juinior high school.  The options are pretty open. Take her to Michael's, Jo-Anne's, Roberts, or another craft store and see what catches her attention. Most likely, if she enjoys bead work as much as you say, she would also enjoy many other types of crafts.   Hope something here helps. Have fun!!

  3. It is the ease with which she is able to complete a project right now. As she gets better at it, smaller beads, more complex patterns and better quality materials.

Any stitchery would also be good. Printed cross stitch at this age is excellent then she can progress to the counted CS and then to needlepoint.

Stitching basic 9-patch quilt blocks by hand would also be good.

All of this is so very dependent on eye/hand coordination for ease of doing the projects. Just keep encouraging her to continue doing stuff.

  4. shiny objects... pretty.

You might get her into braiding/macrame/knotting for friendship bracelets. Then she can still use the beads that she has.

Polymer Clay to make more beads and creative designs.

Crochet with yarn or wire might be something else she might be interested because she can use the beads in those as well.

Weaving... you can buy a loom or get her instructions for seed beads. She can then learn how to read different patterns.

Brick Stitch and Peyote Stitch are fairly easy to learn. Make sure that you are using the right beading needle and use beeswax/Thread Heaven on the Nymo thread to make it stronger.

  5. Smoking.

No, I'm kidding...LOL!  Maybe cross-stitching, I got hooked on that.

Or maybe teach her to sew.

  6. I would say start her with some latch hooking she will like the things that she has made, lake rugs and blankets.  And she may like scrap-booking.  Good luck.

  7. Take her to a craft store and have her look around maybe she will find something else that will trigger her interest. My son was into the fuzzy posters when he was younger,he had them all over his room.
