Why is bullying still hanging around?

I had a interesting bullying lesson taught at school last year, and my teacher had made a strong point that no one could answer ?

she said this..

"What are we doing wrong ?" all the students in class just looked around confused.. then she stated.. "We as teachers have been teaching you kids at school for over 1 year now, and there is still bullying happening around the school." Everyone thought our teacher was accusing us of bullying other students.. but then she questioned something we all question now.. "Is it the teachers fault that the kids are still bullying? Are we not teaching you guys well enough ? Is there somethings you kids don't understand when it comes to bullying ? And what is that ? " Everyone in the class still questions that today.. I have just put this up on Answers.com because I thought it would be interesting what other people will say about this situation !

Thank you to all that are trying their hardest to solve bullying !

Much Respect !

  1. I dont know that anyone will be able to answer that, particularly as bullying continues even into the workplace, and yes it even goes on amongst teaching staff.

It is a fact that bullies need to understand the ramifications of bullying, and perhaps better late than never, those lessons will begin to be learnt.

Industry statistics show that up to 60% of sick time is as a direct result of bullying in the workplace. Large companies like BT have for many years ignored the bullying that goes on by its line managers and their superiors. The resultant costs to UK business runs into £billions, and at last they have now recognised that something needs to be done.

BT and many other companies had a policy of paying off plaintiffs with redundancy packages, hushing everything up and promoting their managers to other departments. Now they all appear to be saying "not anymore" and will instead be sacking managers found guilty of bullying offences.

As bullying tends to be a lifelong vocation for many, childhood bullies now need to wake up and break this destructive habit before it costs them dearly. Teachers, parents and business leaders need to communicate this and reverse this harmful trend.

As a managing director I have never tolerated this in my business, and many are following suit. Union papers are now beginning to report action taken by businesses against workplace bullies, and I feel this is the only action we can take to make it a thing of the past.

  2. survival of the fittest, these children are free from any real authority, and must learn to pick and choose others that will make them stronger, help them survive, to be very dramatic

  3. This is just from my personal experience, but for every one teacher that kids have telling them that bullying is wrong and why, there is about 5 people saying that it is just a fact of life.  these are the same people that say things like "boys will be boys", and "I was bullied when i was a kid and i turned out fine". i thinlk it is confusing to our students.
