Why is burundi a french speaking country?

i have to research facts about it and they want me to answer why burundi speaks french. in better words, why is burundi a french speaking country. if you guys know the answer please help me i cant find it ont the web.

I think it is because it was under Belgian control from the end of World War I until it gained independence (before that it was a German colony).  Of course, African languages will be the most commonly spoken, but very often the European language derived from the former colonial power is the one that is understood throughout a country.

  3. burundi been occupied by belgium. they gain the independence with belgium which is a french speaking country. That's why from their independence to now the official language in burundi is french. but you have to go to school to learn how to speak in french there, some don't the many dialects and some languages too.
