High enough pressure under air temps to require strength - sphere has greatest volume to area of material required.   Propane is stored in cylinders with rounded ends for balance of strength and convenience of spacing as a sphere wastes much of the space around it.

Silos are cylinders, not spheres.

a sphere gives the best strength to weight ratio. a cylinder has sharp corners which can be weak spots with a large internal pressure.
