  2. Chess is not a sport.  It doesn't matter how graceful or technical you move a piece.  Although golf involves a lot of strategy, it's still primarily physical skill.

    If chess is a sport then why isn't checkers or Stratego a sport?

    I think classifying chess as a sport is insane. And I'm speaking as an avid chess player.

  4. Because it is something that ancient people used to play and it follows the normal war routine back then. I believe that it is a sport because it follows something ancient like most sports and some times war was called a sport so some people found a new nonviolent way of war.

    1.  It's in the Olympics.

    2.  You often see 40 to 50,000 people in the stands watching two grand masters playing a 10-hour match in the arena.

    3.  The chess club gets money from the government.

    4.  In high-school the members of the chess club form an elite group that will often berate and bully the weaklings of the class.

    5.  The chess-team has cheerleaders!

  7. Who said you that chess is a sport! It is a game! The basic defination says that sport is a physical activity! Well games are of two types- mental and physical. And chess belongs to the former.

    If you go with something decided by players not judges you need to add athleticism to keep chess out.  If you add it you remove golf.

    Pick your definition.
