  1. China has more gold.  Most people think that means China is ahead.

  2. Because some only care about gold and the think other medals don't matter, kind of lame.

It's all about how many medals you win.

  3. It's all about the Golds..

  4. If you competed 100 times at the same sport competition and ended up 100 times as runner-up, but another person competed once in that same competition and ended up as champion, who is the winner?  Definitely no one will call that 100 times runner-up a winner, but the person who won the gold is the winner.

  5. China have more quality medals for instance more gold that what counts

  6. The official IOC medal table lists China as first because China has the most gold medals. Also, every country except for the US ranks by gold instead of total medal count.

  7. China has more gold,

    US has more medals

Foreigners only care about gold, US gives credit to silver and bronze, and if anyone tells you only gold matters, they are speaking for themselves only.

  8. let's see.

who came in second in the world series?

who came in second in basketball?

who came in second in the superbowl?

who came in second in the Tour de France?

why is second important only in the Olympics?

that said, there's no one i know who wouldn't be really happy to have an Olympic bronze metal.

  9. Gold for the world is the most important, except for the USA

  10. Because the US would rather have 49 gold, 100 silver and 100 bronze than 50 gold and no other medals.  I agree.

Most medals count to us and that's all that matters.

  11. who cares, is there a medal for most medals or most golds?

  12. China has more gold medal then we have.

  13. US is a messed up country. In 2004, the country with the most gold medals was first on the list, which was the US. And this year, China has more, so the US decided that it's based on the total number of medals. Hmm, in 2012, I bet the US is going to say it's based on the number of bronze medals.

The US just always wants to be first.

  14. China has more gold medals. Almost 20 more gold medals than the U.S. but the U.S. leads in overall medal count.

  15. Let us just answer the question: You are probably looking at medal tally that's done by the IOC or by a country/NOC that is not the United States, which ranks according to the number of gold, silver, and bronze medals won (in that order). The USA prefers to rank the countries/NOC's according to the total number of medals -- all types -- won. That's all there is to it.

  16. because china has more gold.  and all you people attacking foreigners are obviously against the Olympic Ideal.  Why don't you actually go out an meet foreigners rather then sit on your butt and attack from home.  They're cool.  An all who are attacking saying Gold doesn't matter are wrong.  Ask any athlete, they want a gold.  And yes Silver and Bronze is great too (nothing is cooler then having a gold, silver, bronze sweep and seeing all three athletes singing to the same anthem [preferably the star spangled banner ;D] ) but gold does matter too. That's why it's gold. And I didn't see any Americans before saying golds didn't matter when we had the most golds and medals total. hmmm......
