Why is climate so important to the location of a bridge?

I have to know this for science and I kind of need it as soon as possible so if you have the answer please answer this question.

  1. If a place is subect to a lot of erosion,   it would be a bad place for a bridge...    things like that...


  2. Well, there's a lot of variables:

    For instance the structure makeup. Will this bridge be made of steel, concrete, etc?

    The climate of an area can degrade certain materials rather quickly. For example a steel bridge in southern Florida would not be wise due to the risk of rapid corrosion.

    On the other hand a concrete bridge in a more temperate zone could face other extremes such as humidity trapping, degradation due to rainfall, etc.

    When engineers research bridge placements, they often consult NOAA and other government organizations in order to better fit a bridge to it's appropriate clime.
