Why is collecting data on crime rate important???

i collected a data on crime rate 4 math and why is collecting data about crime rate important???and why is it relevant to today's society???

It is so they know which areas to concentrate on when they are trying to prevent crime.

it gives projections about how much crime is in certain areas, also insurance company's use it to determine insurance rates on cars and homes and so on. -(bad crime means higher insurance rates because of theft and vandalism etc.)
