Why is conditioning my hair so important?

I have naturally curly hair. NO RELAXERS. NO PERM. Just plain on curls. So because of this when I shower I often wash my hair. Pretty much everyday (unless I flat iron it). The thing is, recently I havent been conditioning it. I notice a difference in my hair when I condition it, but however it very minor. Stuff like ..."okay so yeah my hair feels softer"; but everyone tells me that conditioning my hair is important for VARIOUS reasons not just softness and should be done whenever it is washed. I dont understand, why is this?

  1. Almost all shampoos are very stripping - almost like using dishwashing detergent on your hair. If it was on your face you might start to understand.

They strip the hair of natural oils. Conditioner is to replace these oils. Evenly throughout the hair. Natrural oils are obviously more just at the roots so they can make the hair a bit too flat (and smelly) for our styling desires.

Long term your hair will become porous and fuzzy as your hair needs the oils replaced to protect from the elements.

Having curly hair I would use a conditioned so it was easy to detangle or you will get more split ends.

In addition, sometimes with both hair and skin - if you use strong products that dry the skin out it over compensates and produces more sebum resulting in more zits or hair that is extra oily very quickly at the roots.

  2. shampoos often have a higher concentrated formula, so it can strip your hair's oils very easily

conditioning it often helps protect you hair and makes it look and feel healthy.

  3. i use it cos it makes it look alot more sleeker and just nicer, whereas if i dont, it looks like a big messy frizz bomb

  4. After awhile you will notice a big difference! If you think your hair feels to greasy when you condition it try deep conditioning it about every two days. Some peoples scalp produces the oils found in conditioners very fast! To keep your scalp healthy and your hair growing without using conditioner at all, try vitamin E!!

  5. i dont notice a difference, other then it makes my hair greasy..so i stopped using it

  6. Conditioning your hair moisturizes your hair; and hair needs to be moisturized to stay and look healthy.
