Why is corn so important to the mexican people?

  1. When you look at different societies and the type of food they eat, basically what is available in that certain area is what they commonly eat.  Why Mexicans eat corn is like saying why Chinese eat rice.

    corn/ maize was specifically cultivated to produce large ears.  Since it's a crop, it was a more dependable source of food.  According to research, a decline in Mussel populations coincided with the increase in maize cultivation.


  2. i don't know about it being big. i'm chicano. i will say that the aztecs did have this thing where they would grow

    corn.squash.and beans on the same stick. the cycle of the way it grew would replenish the land instead of deplete it of its vitamins and nutrients.

    Tortillas are a staple with mexican meals.
