Why is cuba so difficult to get out

ok i heard that a lot of Cubans are tryin to escape from their country .But why? and why arent they allowed to get out and what happens if they get cought sneaking out

because of the limited resources the country has. It's not like other poor third world countries where people don't have money to buy food, clothes, medicine, etc. In Cuba everyone has money, the problem is that there isn't enough supplies for everyone to get there fair share. Everyone gets a rationed amount of food a week, everyone gets a rationed amount of clothes for the year. etc etc...

Quick example of what I mean, it is not uncommon to go to the dentist and then dentist will tell you that you need a root canal. You will then be put on a waiting list and 2yrs later they will call you telling you they have the supplies and are ready to operate.

Ok, sorry, but I must correct something that a previous writer wrote in their answer: NOT everybody has money! I agree with everything resources are scarce.

Cuba is a beautiful country with extreme culture and strong people. They all love they're country. The reason they flee is simply for freedom. Freedom that we as Americans take for granted.

Rationalizing your monthly food, personal hygiene products, and even electricity!! This is what what the Cubans are faced with daily.

They want the same thing that everybody wants. A chance and a future of their own.

If they escape and make it close our country, they are chased like chickens in the ocean. Sounds crazy. They will be able to stay in our country if and ONLY if they touch land. Of course, our lovely government stops that, by capturing any Cubans they find at sea and returning them to Cuba. Where then they face imprisonment for escaping.

The horrors they go through on their journey to freedom. To see land-your freedom, and then.....Captured, like a stray dog. Why? Is our Country not a melting pot of different nationalities? Are we ourselves not immigrants?

I believe we should all think about next time you or somebody you know, say: go back where you came from.

Put yourself in their shoes. Lets stop being selfish and appreciate what we have.

We want to escape because it is a totalitarian dictatorship, meaning that the State controls EVERYTHING. And I mean EVERYTHING !

You have very few free options

Besides, the comunist economy doesn't work. Nothing functions. NOTHING !

In the last place where I worked, at 10:00 AM some people gather flowers from the back yard, make a concoction with a little sugar somebody brought and they said:

"This is the first hot thing that I put in my stomach today"

Why are we not allowed to get out ?

Very simple. fidel doesn't want to. Ask him why.

But let me tell you, fidel is an expert in not answering difficult questions. If you ask him about political prisoners in Cuba, he will talk about the first inhabitants in Cuba

If we are caugth escaping, we may be shot down, like those small planes were some years ago. If you are lucky, they will just throw you in the tank and the world will not know anything about you for who knows how long
