Why is currency a more effective way to conduct trade as opposed to bartering?

  1. Sometimes it can be hard to come up with equal value during a barter transaction.  You may have enough of something that would equal the value of what you need to trade for, but the person you are trading with might not need what you have. That person could accept your goods in trade and store them for future barter with someone else, but the storage space is not always available.  Currency is portable and easily stored.
