  1. it isn't...it just upsets management when dead air occurs cuz that means someone ain't doin' their job in the control room...

  2. Dead air illegal? Not technically, but most PDs I ever worked for consider it a capital offense.

I sorta took that attitude with my jox when I graduated to PD, too. It's just unprofessional on a commercial station; commonplace on public stations ;<)

  3. Its not illegal, its just an instant channel changer. Of course, if a station goes off the air for too long, like months, the FCC will look into it and consider revoking a stations license.

  4. it is not illegal for a radio station to have dead air what is illegal is for an idividual (ham operator/ cb'er) to intentially hold to transmit dead air thus causing a frequency to be tied up without use.  this is called dead keying and i no a couple people who have got into trouble for it.

  5. dead air is just something the stations dont want because it will make listeners leave

  6. Dead air on the radio is not illegal at all - it's just annoying to the listeners.
