Why is drinking so popular?

Question

I know I'm going to get the normal stupid answers, but why is drinking so important to people my age (I'm 24). I don't drink, I don't really see a need to. I have fun being sober. With all of the c**p that happens to people when they're drunk, you'd think it wouldn't be something so popular. And finally, for me at least, its impossible to find a woman my age who doesn't drink till she vomits. What happened to being proud of not being a drunk? What happened to good women with morals and values?

i guess people loosen up and act wild ......when there actaullly not the life of the party UNTIL they begin drinking

but for me,...im 17 and never had a sip of alcohol or smoked anything in my whole life.....clean a a whistle ^_^

i haven't kissed a guy yet either which is kinda embarrassing to admit

I know plenty of people who don't feel the need to drink until they vomit.  I don't see anything wrong with people who drink occasionally and within reason.  I love sitting with my friends and having a beer now and then, or a glass of wine.  It might just be the places you go or the company you keep.  Try meeting new people or not going to a bar to pick up chicks.

People drink for the "buzz." Also, it helps people relax during social situations. If you don't drink, then that's good ... don't even start. Because once you enjoy that buzz, you might end up getting hooked!

It's an excuse for people to act like they normally can't and at the same time, blame it on the alcohol. Otherwise, just as Gavin said, maybe to make themselves a little more social. Kudos to both of you for existing without it. And Gavin, don't be embarrassed, that is rare. Apparently,you value yourself unlike many 17 year old girls.

Thank you so much for asking this. I feel the same way. I'm 18 & new 2 college and drinking is how every1 socializes and i don't see the point, so 2 find some1 young who feels the same is comforting. I have plenty fun sober and its safer. Maybe they drink to fit in and we're free thinkers...idk....

It's really hard to describe, the fun of being drunk to people that have never experienced it.It's almost like being a kid again, everything is fun. The more the merrier. A large party with everyone you like, all drunk. Too much fun! If it wasn't for the headaches the next day I'd still do it.

It's overrated & 1 of the most famous types of social activities. Many people think it's cool to harm their bodies with chemical substances.
