  1. Gravity. Its got nothing to do with the rotational spin Elliot, its all gravity. Gravity always acts from the center of a body so any object big enough to have a significant gravitational field will always be nearly spherical. Stars, moons planets etc. The spin of the earth is actually working against gravity which is why the earth isn't a perfect sphere but bulges at the equator.


  2. The rotational spin of the earth is what caused the earth to form in a sphere, and the gravitational pull of the earth is what keeps atmosphere around the earth. The air pressure pressing down on the surface of the earth is what keeps water on the surface of the planet.
