Why is environmental justice part of the environmental movement

  1. because historically, undesirable things (such as waste dumps, nuclear power plants etc) have been placed by poorer communities (minority, ethnic, undesirables etc). Nobody wants a waste dump in their backyard and of course the rich will determine where the dump goes...usually near underprivileged communities. And these things produce pollution in some way, sometimes contaminating the surrounding water or creating a high density of cancer in the area; since these communities are poor, they really can't do anything to help themselves. I hope that helps.
