Why is every one so Hypnotised with Collingwood.?

Geez, I asked a question about Melbourne and somehow, Collingwood come up. However on the subject of the Magpies... WOW.Robert Walls highlighted several indiscressions against them, and Sheahan Followed with same in SUN, that cost Collingwood another game, the second this season. Funny how umpires were in position to see Rocca offend on 6 occassions, but somehow missed his arm being held on another 4. Thats just basic cheating ,and everyone watching throughout Australia now know" Aussie Rules ".at AFL level is just fundamentally.... U cked !!

I agree about the free kicks that were not paid to Rocca but nothing went his way in that game There are a lot of football commentators who hate Collingwood also sports writers feel the same, I think it is because they are a rich club and have so much tradition behind them envy gets you nowhere I think umpires definetly have their fav players.and all the rules have taken away the game that we all know and love

people always have to hate someone. i personally am unphased by the magpies and as for the rule i think collingwood aren't the only club being ripped (all are at some stage) look at the hawthron vs carlton game last friday there were alot of unussual calls for both sides.

I totally agree with you. AFL is rigged, and that umpires get payed 100 grand a year to do jack all. Im a west coast supporter and i have no idea why everyone hates collingwood, probably because they are jealous that the pies have been in more grand finals than any other team in Aussie rule's history (about 60 from memory)

Rocca had his hands in Holland's back several times. The incident with arms being held, have a look at the photo of Rocca with a fistful of Holland's jumper. Play on.

Rocca is a dud. Worst game by a Collingwood player ever. Not my comments but by many magpie supporters on Collingwood forums. Melbourne own Collingwood. That's 4 QB wins in a row.

Instead of whinging about the umpires, try not to give the opposition a 6 goal head start.

all the popular teams are hated when they're doing well. in victoria: essendon, richmond, collingwood and carlton consistently draw the largest crowds. however, these clubs are usually only hated when they are doing well, thus a threat to other clubs. nobody hates carlton or richmond anymore because they have been so poor in recent years. i never hated collingwood until they started making grand finals in the 2000s. i despised essendon back in the 1990s because of their amazing success, now i they are not so much of a threat.

You either love 'em or hate 'em. There is no middle ground. If you grow up in a football family, it is drummed into you at a young age to love or hate Collingwood. The club is massive and so is the coverage.They are the same as The Yankees or Man United.Every side and supporter wants to beat these teams.They put bums in seats for sports events, T.V. shows and sell papers.

kidding collingwood has the largest supporter base of any afl team according to the afl itself so i doesnt surprise me that you will get people chanting collingwoods cause all the time...

It's a family tradition and runs in the family that we don't like Collingwood.

Also has also to do with what Collingwood used to be like- The place in general.

The colours are so boring, I think.

My princabel used to support them so there was alot of rivalry and teasing between his team and us, the students teams.

I'm a Yank soon to be in Germany married to an Aussie from close to Melbourne.  The first time she brought me home to meet her family (divided between Richmond Tigers, Melbourne Demons, and of course Collingwood fans) she took me to see my first AFL game, Pies vs. Tigers.  It was amazing.  I learned that in Australia, you don't "root" for a team, you "barrack" for them, and that can be a pretty bad faux pas.  Six years after that, I'm really starting to understand the game that much better, just wish we had more AFL leagues in the States.

Why do I think Collingwood gets a bad rap?  They remind me of the Washington Redskins (U.S. football...I think you call it gridiron football).  The Redskins fans are really diehard, and they have to be.  Usually, the team chokes throughout the season, or has a good regular season only to choke in the playoffs.  Every once in a blue moon, they come out of nowhere and win the Superbowl (= Grand Final, right?  I'm still capable of learning...)  Anyhow, it is outrageously upsetting to fans of any other respectable team to see a bunch of mediocre players suddenly come out on top.  There's always the sentimental fans who celebrate the "We were there for them the whole way no matter what" attitude, the fair weather fans that nobody honestly listens to, and then everyone else who sat there stunned in front of the T.V. wondering, "Geez, how did that happen?"  That last crowd is usually in the majority, and much like Redskin fans, Collingwood fans DON'T seem to fit into that crowd that often.  No disrespect to the black and white, though.  When that blue moon rolls around, they can be unstoppable.
