Question:

Why is every other middle- and high-schooler suicidal?

Many that I know are doing it for attention, none of them are starving or have abusive parents (though of course this is not always the case)...my little sister and I have a pretty sweet life, but she's had thoughts about self-mutilation and the like. Friends reveal that they were/are suicidal in an almost show-offy manner. It's annoying and I don't want to surround myself with such people, but they seem to be everywhere. Am I not a normal teenager for not feeling the same way? Why do they act like this?

  1. I dont know about you but kids in my area never think of suicide unless they are mentally ill.  Thats just really weird.

P.S. i live in the orange county, california bubble so what do i know about other areas

  2. I personally believe we live in a culture of depression, and that depression, anxiety, and sadness are viewed as normal, desirable behaviors.  There's also a lot of things to be sad about in the last couple of generations.

  3. I think even if a person is making those statements for attention, it still signifies a problem.  And even if their lives seem spectacular, no one but that person knows the truth. Sometimes people have things happen that no one else is aware of. Some people are just douche bags and like to be emo for the trend. But even those people have emotional issues to want that. I think our society glorifies tragedy.
