  1. Because the government denied what was going on and didn't make us aware of the problem. Now that it's trendy the government suddenly wants to join in.

  2. The damage is done yes, but maybe they want to further reduce anymore damage.

  3. I think it is because people realize the actual impact of global warming and littering and the people are now trying the best that they can so they can live in a safe, clean enviroment for their children and stuff like that

  4. b/c scientists didnt know it was global warming they thought it was something else and it will do some good now b/c if we dont we all die in 2011 so shut up buddy

  5. They have been brain washed by our teachers.

  6. because now most people have heard what is going on where before most people had no idea.  But, doing things now can put a halt to the majority of the damage causing behaviors and provide enough of a lull to begin repairing the damage.

  7. I agree with you. . . we are on a path of destruction no matter what. . . but we "might" have a chance if we do change. . . I think the reason why it has become so important, is because we actually see and feel the effects of our folly now. . . It's easy to forget what's important when things pretty much stayed the same for years. . .

Pretty sad. . . I am a farmer, and sit wondering at times how everyone is even going to eat in the future with the crazy weather patterns. . .

  8. I wouldn't question why now but am exited about the movement to go green.

This planet is resilient especially when you look at the history of the earth over the last 30 million years. We can make a difference.

I was encouraged to hear just last week the south pole's ice cap has actually increased over the last 2 years. That's encouraging. Don't be so gloomy.

  9. Your observation does apply properly to the global warming issue. But the Green movement is much broader, and going green in the broader sense going green is not about pushing back something that is going to happen.

Take the issue of global warming as tho it were the whole of going green, however, and it may still not be pushing back what will happen.

Remember, I used the word may, not will.

If we were to cut emissions now, drastically, like 80%, we would be in a gradual GHG decline for the next 200 years. During that time it is random chance likely that we might have a major series of volcanoes that could cancel out our global warming.

Now that might happen anyway, right? It could, but the probability that it will reverse global warming enough to make it all worth while depends largely on hoe far we have previously cut GHG accumulations.

Yes, this is an attempt to play the odds as well as we can. And yes, we may not get there.

That I think is why we need to go green on ever so many more fronts than just global warming.

  10. It is never too late and even small changes can make a difference.  People are more aware of the impact of what we have done to the environment.

We can not change the past, we can only go forward.  Judging what we did in the past  with the information of what we now know in the present is useless....

  11. In other countries, people have been working very hard to be "green."  Green parties were founded in Europe decades ago in order to help stop the terrible impact of industry on our natural resources.

In many European countries there are penalties and fines for not adhering to strict recycling programs.  Addtionally, store bags are far and few and expensive.  Packaging for items is kept low in order to produce less waste.

I don't believe that it's too late for us to make changes in our way of life. But it's going to take a personal consequence for people to realize that everyone is affected.

  12. It's the latest yuppie fad.

  13. so you dont mind if the world will suddenly end tomorrow? people will still live for many years. but until then it depends on us if they will breathe nice and fresh air or disgusting and stinking air that makes you to vomit each time you inhale.
