  1. Not everyone is h**l bent on destroying the oil companies.

I do personally think that there several reasons that the oil companies are being attacked at this time, and the main reason is because far too many people have been brainwashed into believing that the use of fossil fuels causes 'Global Warming'.

This belief is because most people have little or no understanding of very basic science, and believe that whatever they see or hear in the media has to be true.

These same people can not comprehend the simple fact that our entire infrastructure revolves around oil production and transport.

When the price of fuel is increased, either by increased consumption or lack of supply, or by higher taxes on that fuel, it has a 'knock on effect' for all commodities(food, power, appliances, cars, etc..), since everything has to be moved from the point of production to the point of sale.

The food at your local store doesn't mysteriously appear there overnight, the fuel at your gas station is stored in underground tanks which need to be replenished, etc..

This added cost of transportation has got to be passed on to the consumer in order to allow the businesses to survive and make a profit, otherwise they will cease to exist!

Far too many people, including the politicians, seem to be incapable of grasping this extremely simple concept.

Many people are also convinced(as I was back in th 60's) that the oil companies have bought up all of the technology for any viable alternative replacement for oil, or increased fuel economy.

I believed it because I wanted to believe it and this is what I heard, not because I had any proof or scientific knowledge at the time.

I do not like exploitation of any kind, and I do find it hard to fathom or completely justify the massive profits which many large businesses seem to be enjoying, while the average working class person is forced to struggle simply to try and make 'ends meet'.

While I can understand the reason for making profits, when it gets to the point of obscenity, it has really gone too far in my opinion.

We now have a 'backlash' of even more devious, harmful, immoral people and organizations which prey on peoples gullibility by selling 'Carbon Credits', and bogus 'Alternative fuel' BS.

Who is  more damaging to our society?

It is NOT the oil companies!!!

  2. People don't seem to realise how much they'd miss them if they weren't there.  If there were no oil companies, transport would be so expensive.

  3. The oil companies take oil from American land sold to them at bargain prices by a bunch of crooked government politicians.  Then these same politicians give these same companies huge tax breaks.  That's because big oil gives millions to politicians every year. The gas situation is like a Boa Constrictor ever so tightening it's grip on society and squeezing every penny out of us until we are broke.  You do realize don't you that when everything crashes THEN wages will fall and these institutions will have the upper hand on the working stiffs digging ditches.  Be prepared for the shortages of oil coming and food and water should be stored for the day that is coming !

  4. hmmm lets see.... strangehold on governments, supression of better and more sustainable methods of doing just about anything, and pollution isn't enough?

  5. I don't know about "everyone" but I for one would be perfectly fine with the current oil companies continuing to be our largest energy suppliers.  Excessive use of oil is the problem, not the oil companies themselves.  In spite of Exxon's actions, and surely they are not the only oil company to fund anti-AGW groups, I think they are now moving in the right direction and I have no issue with them.

  6. I don't mind oil companies and I don't think they're to blame for global warming. I think people are mad at them because the price of gas, at least where I live, is approaching $5/gallon. I think that's more a function of supply and demand than anything the oil companies are doing.  They are nothing like the n***s were.

  7. Because the media and politicians have brainwashed the public into believing the Oil Companies are to blame for high oil prices and blocking research and development on alternatives.

This is not true. The big Oil Companies do not even own most of the oil produced and do not set the prices. They own some wells, but most are owned by governments, small well owners, and co-op investors. Big oil does own many refineries.

The price of crude oil is set by futures traders and companies bidding on the crude produced. The price of gas is then set by more traders, transportation companies, refineries, wholesalers, retailers, and state/federal taxes.

It is a shame our ignorant news media can't get the facts and educate the public so we can know what to do. They are to busy passing out the Democrat talking points to get the truth. Democratic talking points are Hate Big Oil, Hate Bush. The h**l with the truth.

  8. It's anger over thin wallets, slow economy cars, and just for kicks high taxes.

  9. It is more wanting them to allow other forms of energy to come into the market alongside them. While the rest of the world is getting most if not all of its electricity from nuclear power plants we are dependent on coal and oil fired plants because of laws and restrictions implemented by democratic politicians funded by the oil companies. In the late 70s the space based power generation program was scrapped by Jimmy Carter and some of the leading lights of today’s Democratic Party to the benefit of the oil companies that keep them in office.

When Reagan tried to restore the space power plant program as part of the star wars defense program these same Democratic Party legislators shot it down funded by the oil companies. Ever since any attempt to bring back real green power that would do good and help the American economy through the sale of power from space to the rest of the world has been stifled by the oil companies that do not want any form of competition they do not control. They control coal so they do not consider it to be forbidden competition.

With Japan and Europe working on the space power system now and planning on using Russian and Chinese launch vehicles to set up the needed lunar construction facilities to build the space based generators it looks as if we will either buy our electricity from them or use oil and coal until it is exhausted completely.

  10. At the moment, people are angry at the price of gasoline.  The supplier, being the oil company, is a convenient target.  The politicians bash the oil companies to show that they are speaking out for the people, but actually they have made the matters worst due to their actions over the years.

Gasoline prices are high because crude oil prices are high.  Prices are high to various factors that come into play: (a) there is not much of excess of supply capabilties over demand; (b) increasing demand, especially from China, India and Middle East; (c) geopolitical troubles that threatens supply of crude oil; (d) the decling value of the U.S. dollar, that effectively reduces the cost of crude oil for buyers with foreign currency and lower cost increases demand; (e) the inability of oil companies to access land for exploration and production of oil (e.g., U.S. offshore and ANW).  These are some of the factors.

The news headlines highlights the hugh earnings of the oil companies.  The fact of the matter is that the oil companies are hugh and need to be to be willing to take risks in exploration.  A deepwater well in the Gulf of  Mexico can cost over $100 million!  If you were to look at the profit per dollar of sales, there are many industries tha tare more profitable.  In other words, there is no "windfall" profit.  The oil companies sell the crude oil in the open market where it is produced.  They also buy crude oil in the open market where their refineries are located.   Right now, they are making money producing oil but losing money selling refined products.

The bottom line: people want to destroy the oil companies because they are ignorant and/or misinformed.

  11. The main problem is with the oil companies themselves. They have blocked or attempted to stall real research into viable alternatives sources of energy so we continue to be dependent on a nonrenewable resource which could run out completely in as little as 80 years. Adding insult to injury, these companies are reaping record profits, the bulk of which is going to the top executives. What can possibly justify a $200 million golden parachute for an executive after being fired for incompetence?
