He was no where near a star in the league. It is good he played in NBA 4 or 5 years but he won't be missed, maybe only by Hawks fan.

  1. its a big deal b/c of what this might start....if european teams are willing to pay big bucks, other nba players will go over there to play, and one day a huge star might leave....a lot of those european cities are much bigger than the ones nba teams play in.

  2. Because he was a very great player for the Hawks!!!!

  3. cause he chose to play for europe instead for the nba

nba is the biggest platform for basket ball and he decided to leave it

  4. Its a big deal because he is without question the most successful and big named NBA player to make the transition to the European League.  With this news following the recent news of the Arizona Star College player heading to Europe, people are starting to wonder if the NBA will expand Internationally.  Also, sports fans are questioning if European Basketball will one day become the "worlds top professional league."  I dont see this happening, and am confident that the NBA will remain unaffected by these recent developments.  However, I would not be surprised if A few Internation Teams do eventually Join the NBA.  Only Time will tell.  As for Josh Childress, he simply went to the Euro League for financial reasons...25 million for three years is huuuge compared to the type of money he would be looking at in the NBA.  I hope That answers your question a little bit.

  5. The media is making a huge deal out of Josh Childress going overseas because he is was high draft pick just a few years ago and is in the prime of his career and is intentionally choosing to play in Greece rather than in the NBA. Most American basketball players that go overseas to play professionally are usually undrafted college players or role players that bounce from team to team. Childress has the talent to stay in the NBA, but he obviously can make a lot more cash in Greece. More likely than not, he will come back to the NBA after his contract expires with Olympiakos.

  6. Well Im a Rockets fan and I will miss him every time we face the Hawks. He was also one of their best players.

  7. its basically the fact he chose Europe OVER the NBA.. i am sure he will not be the last

nba wants to be the best league in the world, which it is, but if more and more guys go overseas it will hurt the nba eventually

  8. He won't be there long. A guy like Jason Kidd could probably do well in europe cause he'd fit in more. With his lighter skin & all. An african american guy like Childress with an afro and gold teeth or braces on his teeth or whatever that is, is not going to fit in well in a place like greece lol. Believe me after a year of staying there he will be screaming to come home! White on Black racism is nothing here compared to Europe. I'm not sure what the derogatory words for someone of african descent are in Greek, but i'm sure Josh will learn what they are after a month of being there from the fans.
