Why is everyone making such a big deal about micheal phelps?

i mean articals about what he eats and what he listens to on his i-pod big whoop do you people actually care

micheal phelps is okay and i have nothing against him and i think it's great him winning all theses medals but why do people WORSHIP him do they have nothing better to do

well he is a big deal. i mean sheesh he's broken so many world records and taken the most golds in one olympic sitting so yes of course people (including myself) are going to make a big deal out of him because he IS a big deal :D  they're accomplishments that should not go unrecognized.  

as far as the iPod and diet thing, they're just fun facts that people like to know.  like the size of his shoe, it's not an important fact, but it is fun to know :)  

and dude i mean can't the same be said about you?  if you really weren't interested, why are you reading the articles, or posting questions like this one?  gotta admit, he's pretty cool huh? :D

Because he has won 8 gold medals (more than anyone ever in the world...and no one has ever one that many in a single olympic game ever!) And he has won all of his events. All 17 of them. Even the prelims.! There is question if he is the greatest olympian of all time. So thats why everyone is making such a big deal about him. And i bet some people think hes cute.

hey. listen buddy. michael phelps should be getting this fame...he won every race he swam, has who know how many records, he does act a little big-headed but he excels at what he does and not just swimmers "worship him for this" I do believe other swimmers that say came in 2nd, 3rd, 4th or even made it into the olympics should be given some recongintion but live is life.

i agree with you,, but in couple months he'll be forgotten till the next olympics(which im waiting for the day that they shut up about him)...like i understand all this media attention if he was Australian, just cause its a huge sport down there, but its The US, people will move onto other sports for the next 4 years...And im sick & tired of all my friends being in love with him!!!

Swimming at the level he does is not easy. Watching him in the pool is amazing. I appreciate what he has done having been a competitive swimmer myself. I don’t know if you realise just how much effort he has put in to be as good as he is. I wouldn’t say he is the greatest Olympian but he deserves some attention and congratulations for what he has achieved. He is an absolute machine…well done him!!

Mark Spitz won 7 medals.  However when Mark was competing there was no 50 meter freestyle.

The articles are being printed for the same reasons that articles were printed about Britney Spears shaving her head and Miley Cyrus posing for Vanity Fair...he is a celebrity.  People are interested in that sort of thing.  He is the best Olympian EVER, so I think he deserves this attention and fame.  And let me tell you, he did work for it.
