Gas prices are TWICE as high in europe and you don't see them complaining.

  1. They don't complain because they are members of subdued non-superpowers and they don't have the vast distances to cover to go to the store or across their countries in most instances.

Their countries were developed in the horse and buggy age and things are situated closer and transit is better so they are not nearly as automobile dependent as we are.  Their drivers are much more bicycle and motorcycle friendly than ours are, too.

  2. In Europe they have to have all there gas brought in when you look at the U.S and even canada you have to ask why we are paying such high prices. We are being screwed and the sooner the speculators who in my opinion are stopped from manipulating the oil prices the better of we all will be. They have driven the price up and it is for pure greed. In my opinion whoever buys the oil and drives the price up should have it all dumped in there front yards. When you can get speculators saying months ago oil will be 150.00 a barrel in the summer you have to ask why they are saying this then you have to say well who wouldn't put it that high the oil companies are loving it they are making record profits and our governments are making record dollars and here in canada they have surplusses of money that makes me sick to my stomach because of the gas taxes they are bringing in. So we should be complaining after all how much do we export here in canada alot. It should be staying here in my opinion. Same with the U.S. why is gas more in states that have refineries.

  3. Because we are facing horrible times...If gas prices continue to go up then no one can go anywhere or do anything and Our country will just shut down!

  4. Well when you are used to paying a certain price and all of a sudden the price jumps it throws your budget off.  Imagine your gas price doubling.  That's what we are dealing with here.  Our pay stays the same....that isn't inflating with the fuel prices.

  5. thats because europeans drive turbo diesel cars that get 60 mpg, while americas government has forbidden those type of vehicles over here because of emmission laws, so if you figure your cost per mile or kilometer, yall actually have cheaper driving expenses

  6. If you worked, had children, or had family, you would know the answer to that question.  But to further elaborate, gas is the driving force behind today's cultural society.  If you don't use it in your car, you will use it in your house for cooking and drying clothes.  Winter will come and most elderly and some displaced low income people will have to pay higher prices for GAS,  But maybe you are one of the RICH people who do not care about anyone other than SELF.

Step outside of your box and start living.

  7. probably because they're in europe and we're not. the price of gas is really hurting everyone in this country. even the airlines are flying slower, so they won't use as much fuel. i also don't see people losing their homes like we are either. can you explain that?

  8. In America many are living paycheck to paycheck. Gas has reached a price high enough that people cannot afford to use as much and are adjusting their driving (or eating) habits.

  9. it isn't stupid at all ; we are not accustomed to such high prices plus many people over here are really struggling .. many people are already losing their jobs and more ppl are losing their homes and still have to worry about paying for gas .... when u can barely afford it... i don't know much about Europe because I've never been but from what i hear the value of money is different over there... things are more expensive ... we are accustomed to gas being more like $2 vs. $5 which is a big difference per gallon.. espec. if u have a car like a suv... and u have to drive long distances back and forth to work ( for some ppl their checks are not even as much as their gas) (not to mention the cost of fuel has made everything else go up including grocery!!!

  10. Because europe has twice the economy of the united states... It is coming down to choosing between food and gas with money and it should never be like that... Enjoy the high gas prices and keep on smiling as for america we have the right to complain and make our government listen to us...

  11. People use mass transportation more in Europe, not to mention motorscooters and bicycles and more efficient means of transportation. They also use more diesel fuel in Europe which costs more than regular unleaded gas.

For me personally I commute to work each day and it's 20 miles each way. I estimate it's costing me about $30 to $40 more per month for gas at this time in previous years. Gas has traditionally costed more during summer so if you do a comparison, you have to compare what the price of gas was last summer (which in my neck of the woods was a bit over $4/gallon at this time last year). Now it's about $4.50/gallon which is adding about $5 to the total bill per week.

I don't think this is anything to be alarmed about but it is a concern. Actually what really concerns me is the price of everything else. I expect the price of food, energy, and clothing to go up quite a bit (as well as rent) as a result of the increase in gas prices. I feel bad for the dollar stores because there's no way they will be able to stay in business with the current climate.

  12. We obsess because we aren't used to the high prices yet.  We will come to accept them as normal soon.  There is no alternative.
